Dam Removal Europe request on barrier removal

Dam Removal Europe is currently collecting data on barrier removals* executed in 2024 to evaluate the implementation advancement of EU policies and to analyze the progress of this river restoration measure in each country. Last year a record number of removed barriers in Europe was reported, result that was highlighted also by The Guardian.

Any information on barrier removals (weirs, dams, culverts, etc.) executed in 2024 would be valuable. 

Data will be collected until March 15th and the DRE report will be published in May. You can send all information to Foivos Mouchlianitis (falexandrosmouchlianitis@wwf.nl).

 
*Barrier removals refer to complete removal of the full vertical extent of the structure OR partial removal permitting fish passage and ecological flow. Creation of rock ramps that "eliminate" the barrier by increasing the riverbed are also considered removals. Any type of fishway construction, bypasses, etc. are not considered barrier removals"
